I started taking photos on family road trips in the early '70s with a Minolta point and shoot. My parents gave me a SLR for my high school graduation gift. You had to balance a needle by rotating the f/stop ring to make a correct exposure. Later on, I bought myself a Konica SLR. I believe it was auto exposure and auto focus. There was a long lag in my photography activities except for making some photos with the microscopes at work and photographing flowers at the local botanical gardens. My budding interest in birds led me to buy a Nikon Coolpix. I eventually graduated to a Canon digital Rebel and a Canon zoom lens. I bought a Canon 20D in order to have servo mode for birds in flight. When that quit functioning I bought a 40D because I already had Canon lenses. Since last Christmas I have been interested in macrophotography.
My equipment includes: 500mm f/4 lens, 100mm f2.8 macro, 65mm f2.8 macro and 40D dslr (all Canon).
I enjoy the challenge of nature photography. It can be a manual art requiring great patience. Photography is a way to discover new creatures and marvel at their beauty as well as a way to enjoy the peace of being outdoors. These galleries are where I put my most satisfying images.
